The New GCSE 9 - 1 System
The new GCSE 9 – 1 system is applicable only in England, and is not in use within Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland. GCSEs in England are being reformed and as of 2017 examinations Maths, English Language, and English Literature will no longer be graded from A* – G, but will instead follow a new 9 – 1 system.
(… We understand that this may be confusing and difficult to follow, therefore the following information should help give your and your child a better understanding of what to expect for the new grading system.
Currently as of 2017 examinations only GCSE Maths, English Language, and English Literature are graded using the new 9 – 1 system. The numbering system follows the GCSE grading system in reverse order with a 9 under the new system being equivalent to a high A* (now being referred to as an A**), and 1 being an F or G in the old GCSE system (depending on the grade boundaries for the specific board and exam).
