COMMON ENTRANCE
Common Entrance Examinations are taken by some children to gain entry to selective schools as part of the admissions process at the age of 13. Most of the secondary schools that use Common Entrance for admission are fee paying or preparatory schools. Both kinds of schools are particular type of independent schools. The exam is an internal one, it is set and marked by the school itself. However, largely the exam consist of:

- English
- Mathematics

Science
These are the compulsory core subjects.
Other papers can be chosen from French, German, Spanish, Latin, Greek, Geography, History and Religious Studies. Most senior schools expect candidates to offer Geography, History, Religious Studies and one or two languages.
